India all set to develop reusable rockets:DRDO chief

New Delhi After the successful launch of Agni-5 Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM), India is all set to develop reusable rockets which will combine the technologies of both ballistic and cruise missiles. As part of plans to develop reusable ballistic missiles, Defence Research and Development Organisation will test indigenously developed scram jet engine next year, DRDO Chief VK Saraswat said in an interview to Doordarshan. “We have propulsion technology, we have re-entry technologies, we have the technology which can take a re-entry system which will deliver a payload and have yet another re-entry system which will bring the missile back when it re-enters the atmosphere on its return journey,” he said

Naxals Kidnap Sukma district collector Alex Paul Menon in Chhattisgarh

In an audacious daylight operation, Maoist rebels on Saturday abducted Collector of Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district Alex Pal Menon from the middle of a meeting with villagers.  Menon (32), an IAS officer of 2006 batch, was kidnapped from Majhipara village in Keralapal area of the Naxal-infected district this afternoon, Additional Director of Police (anti-Naxal operations) Ram Nivas told a news agency. The incident happened when Menon, who went to the village on motorcycle was holding a meeting with the villagers as part of the government’s ‘Gram Suraj’ campaign, aimed at weaning away the locals from the path of Naxalism. “Around 20 Naxalites reached the spot and shot dead two personal security officers of the Collector before taking him into the nearby forest,” Ram Nivas said

Washington Expressing its disappointment at the pace of reform on quota and governance issues in the International Monetary Fund (IMF), India has said that a dynamic reform process is necessary to ensure IMF’s legitimacy and effectiveness. “The best possible means to improve governance and legitimacy is by ensuring that there is no slippage on crucial reforms,” Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said Friday at a joint session of the policy making International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC) and G-20. Stressing the central importance of quotas as the main determinant of the voting power of members, he said there should not be any slippage in the January 2013 target date for quota formula review
